Biography
Née en 1960 à Sion, Suisse
In this digital world in which we are neither here nor there, Viviane Rombaldi Seppey repurposes the phonebook, an artifact of the analog age, to combine here and there in a single visual image. Having predominantly lived abroad as a Swiss expatriate in the East as well as the West, Rombaldi Seppey approaches the phonebook as a universal record that embodies a definition of place. As such, her collages which ultimately fragment this record, maintain the identity of some address listings, offering a glimpse into the characteristics of the location, whilst overall her compositions associate patterns, structure and imagery with the time, space and relationship of belonging.
Viviane Rombaldi Seppey was born in Sion, Switzerland. She has exhibited overseas and in numerous New York institutions including Smack Mellon, Bronx Museum, Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, Wave Hill, Lower East Side Printshop, and Carriage House at the Islip Art Museum. She was a Lower East Side Printshop Key Holder Resident, AIM Artist in the Marketplace participant, and a resident at Bundanon Trust in Australia.
